A small story, told slowly.
It begins, like many Finnish stories do, close to nature. With a question we couldn’t quite let go of. How could we make a diaper that felt gentler on sensitive skin, without compromising on quality or care for the world children grow up in? So in 1979, our father Raimo set out to make one himself. Not somewhere far away, but here in Finland, where Moomin Baby diapers are still developed and produced today.
A diaper that didn't have to choose.
For a long time, parents had two kinds of diaper to choose from. One that worked. And one that didn't quietly cost the planet a little more every morning.
We thought there had to be a third option, a diaper that did both jobs at once, made by people who took both jobs seriously.
So we made it. Quietly. In Finland. In the only diaper factory left in the country.
Soft on your child and our planet.
Built once. Still here.
Our beginnings go back to 1979, in a small factory in Finland, at the edge of a forest west of Helsinki. It was here that a father set out to make something better, soft things, useful things, for his own child, without compromising on care or quality.
Three generations later, the family is still there. So is the forest.
Every Moomin Baby diaper is made in our own factory in Finland, by our own team, using carefully selected FSC-certified pulp and responsibly sourced materials. We keep production in our own hands and close to home, close to where our story began.
“I only wanted to run along the beach beside them, and laugh with them, they’re so beautiful…”
Eight quiet milestones. One long road.
Brands like to talk about milestones as if they were big bangs. Ours were not. They were a meeting, a phone call, a hand on a clipboard. Here they are anyway.
Tove Jansson publishes the first Moomin story.
From a small island in the Gulf of Finland, the Moomins enter the world, calm, curious creatures who believe in a slow and kind way of living.
Our story begins.
In Finland, a father sets out to create a better diaper for his sensitive baby boy. Frustrated with what was on the market, he develops a skin-friendly alternative. This becomes the foundation of Delipap and Moomin Baby.
Our first paper diaper.
Moomin diapers are launched under the Moomin name. Colourful packaging brings the Moomin characters into the world of baby care.
A long friendship begins.
We start working with the Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation. They review every batch. The partnership is still going, in its 34th year.
The Nordic Swan settles on us.
We become one of the first diaper makers in Europe to carry the Nordic Swan ecolabel. We have carried it ever since.
Moomin Baby introduced internationally.
The Moomin Baby name is introduced internationally as the brand continues to grow. Our promise remains the same: gentle on skin, mindful of the planet.
Our packaging becomes CO₂-neutral.
Our factory transitions further toward renewable energy, including solar energy, as part of our ongoing work to reduce environmental impact.

You are reading this. We are still here in Finland, making diapers with care, close to where our story began. We hope it can be part of yours too.
Forty-seven people in Finland.
Moomin Baby is made by 47 people. We know all of their names. Some have worked at the factory for thirty years. One is the granddaughter of the founder. Most live within ten kilometres of the building.
We are not a brand made in a city office and produced somewhere else. We are a factory that grew a brand. There is a difference, and you can feel it in the product.
Thank you for choosing a diaper made slowly, by people, in a small town in Finland.
We will keep doing what we are doing. Quietly. For a long time. We will keep the factory in Finland. We will keep the forest behind it. We will keep the friendship with the Allergy Federation, and the family that started this in 1979.
We will not be the loudest brand in your inbox. We will try to be the one you remember.
